I made an art installation for Burning Man 2019 that was inspired by the principle of decommodification. At Burning Man there are no corporate sponsors. No one is trying to sell you things, and people even cover up logos on their clothing, gear, and vehicles. It is incredibly pleasant to spend a week away from the mayhem of advertising, marketing, and sponsorships, and the purpose of the piece was to help people appreciate this in the moment. It was placed in a remote part of the desert, over a mile from the center of the city, so the interaction was just them, the piece, and the dust (maybe some distant bass womps too).
